Ambassador of Brazil Discusses Trade and Livestock Collaboration with Bangladesh Finance Minister

Dhaka: The Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Brazil to Bangladesh, Paulo Fernando Dias Feres, met with Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury at his office. The Minister welcomed Ambassador Feres and expressed appreciation for the growing bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Brazil.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the meeting highlighted the steady expansion of bilateral trade, which has surpassed $3 billion. Both parties emphasized the importance of further strengthening cooperation across various sectors. Ambassador Feres noted the potential of Bangladesh as a regional business hub and its significance in the South Asian region, as stated in a press release from the Finance Ministry.

Ambassador Feres conveyed Brazil’s interest in sending a high-level business delegation to Bangladesh to explore investment opportunities. The discussions focused on cooperation in cattle rearing and meat processing, including the possibility of establishing joint venture enterprises in the meat processing industry. The Bangladesh side expressed interest in acquiring modern livestock and farm management technologies while protecting local farmers’ interests.

The prospects for expanding exchanges in the beef and poultry sectors were also discussed, with particular attention to Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) certification issues. Both sides acknowledged the significant potential for enhanced collaboration in the livestock sector.

Additionally, the Minister and the Ambassador expressed their appreciation for the finalization of Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) on Health, Agriculture, and Sports cooperation between the two nations. They expressed hope that these agreements would be signed during the upcoming Third Bilateral Consultation between Bangladesh and Brazil.
