Dhaka: Singapore’s Non-Resident High Commissioner Derek Loh today paid a courtesy call on the opposition leader of the parliament, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, at his Bashundara office. The meeting was also attended by Singapore High Commission charge d’ affaires Michael Lee and Country Director for South Asia, Mr. Tae Dae Ern, as mentioned in a parliament secretariat release.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the opposition leader’s foreign affairs adviser, Barrister Mir Ahmad Bin Quasem Arman, MP, was present at the meeting. The discussions took place in a cordial and friendly atmosphere. Both parties exchanged views on the current political and economic situation in the country, as well as on industrial-commercial development, post-parliament polls democratic progress, referendum, and necessary state reform through implementing the July charter.
During the meeting, the Singaporean Non-Resident High Commissioner praised the role of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami in the economic development and democratic progress of Bangladesh. He also expressed hope for strengthening bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Singapore in the future, enhancing areas of cooperation, and creating new potentials for development initiatives in both countries.
Both parties agreed on the importance of democratic progress, economic prosperity of Bangladesh, and the enhancement of mutual cooperation. The Singapore envoy extended an invitation to the leader of the opposition to visit Singapore.
