Dhaka: Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has called upon BNP lawmakers from the women reserved seats to prepare themselves for a more impactful participation in the Jatiya Sangsad (JS). The directive was issued during a meeting held with the women MPs at the Cabinet Division at the secretariat.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the prime minister emphasized the importance of developing a clear understanding of the Rules of Procedure of the JS for the MPs to become competent lawmakers. He also urged them to exercise caution and responsibility while delivering speeches in parliament, highlighting the need for vigilance against public misinterpretation of religious matters.
Tarique Rahman stressed the importance of increasing engagement with constituents, asserting that the public had endured mental distress and a lack of freedom of speech for 17 years. He noted that under the BNP government, people are now enjoying full democratic rights.
During the meeting, the women MPs shared their perspectives on various issues, including parliamentary procedures, the current political climate, and the fulfillment of the government’s electoral promises. All 36 BNP women MPs were present, with 17 contributing to the dialogue.
Post-meeting, women MP Arifa Sultana Ruma informed BSS that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman mentioned plans to provide them with training on parliamentary procedures before the next session of the Jatiya Sangsad. She noted the prime minister’s instructions to foster closer ties with the people in their constituencies and to promote the party’s ideals and initiatives at the grassroots level.
Also in attendance were BNP Secretary General and LGRD and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, and the party’s Senior Joint Secretary General and Prime Minister’s Political and Agriculture Adviser Ruhul Kabir Rizvi. The BNP holds 36 out of the 50 reserved seats for women in the JS.
