Dhaka: Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) Affairs Minister Dipen Dewan today emphasized the government’s commitment to enhancing educational opportunities in the hill tracts, aiming for balanced regional development. Speaking at the inauguration of an internationally recognized Japanese Kumon Learning Centre at Monoghar Residential School and College in Rangamati town, Dewan highlighted the role of education in transforming underprivileged students’ lives in the area.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the minister remarked that the Kumon method would significantly aid disadvantaged students in remote hill areas by improving their mathematical skills and boosting their self-confidence through self-learning and regular practice. He stressed the necessity of expanding such initiatives to ensure access to education for students in the remote areas of the CHT region, assuring that the ministry would extend full support for the program.
The establishment of the Kumon Learning Centre was made possible with corporate backing from BRAC Kumon Ltd and Mitsubishi United Finance Group (MUFG). Addressing the attendees, Dewan emphasized the importance of integrating students from the 13 ethnic communities residing in the hill tracts into mainstream education and socio-economic development.
Dipen Dewan further announced that the Rangamati Hill District Council, along with the other two hill district councils, would undergo reconstitution soon. The event was presided over by Monoghar Residential School and College Executive Committee President, Venerable Sraddhalankar Mahathero.
Notable attendees included MUFG Managing Director Kimura Kenji, BRAC Kumon Chief Business Officer Nehal Bin Hasan, and JICA Bangladesh Special Adviser Kiyoshi Amada, among other distinguished guests. The function saw participation from over 800 students, guardians, and representatives from various organizations.
