Sunamganj: Sunamganj-1 MP Kamruzzaman Kamrul found no teachers present during sudden visits to three government primary schools in his constituency on Thursday morning.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the MP was initially scheduled to visit Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examination centres in Madhyanagar and Dharmapasha upazilas. However, he opted to inspect the regular activities of local educational institutions during his journey. At approximately 9:30 am, he entered Abidnagar Govt Primary School in Madhyanagar, only to find it devoid of teachers. A similar situation awaited him at Dugnoi Govt Primary School, which he visited at 9:42 am.

The most concerning scenario unfolded at Kayetkanda Govt Primary School, where MP Kamruzzaman stayed until 10:00 am, yet no teachers reported for duty during his visit. Expressing his dissatisfaction, Kamruzzaman criticized the absenteeism as irresponsible and detrimental to education. Engaging with local residents and students, he condemned what he described as an ‘evading mentality’ among teachers.

Highlighting the government’s prioritization of primary education, Kamruzzaman emphasized the unacceptable nature of such negligence at the grassroots level. He questioned, “If teachers do not arrive at schools even after 10:00 am, what will happen to the future of young students? This is clearly irresponsible and against public interest.”

In response to the incident, the MP informed the upazila and district primary education officers, instructing them to pursue departmental action following a thorough investigation. Local guardians and conscious citizens noted that weak monitoring in remote areas often leads to such practices among teachers. They welcomed the MP’s surprise visit, hoping it would foster transparency and accountability in the education sector.
