Dhaka: Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has launched a special training programme for imams and meat processors ahead of Eid-ul-Azha, focusing on proper animal slaughter, meat processing, hide preservation, and sacrificial waste management. DNCC administrator Md Shafiqul Islam Khan inaugurated the programme at Mirpur in the capital on Thursday morning.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the administrator emphasized the importance of adhering to the methods taught in the training for the slaughtering of animals. He highlighted the economic significance of animal hides and the necessity of their proper preservation and processing. The DNCC has committed to distributing adequate salt free of cost for the preservation of hides.
Shafiqul Islam Khan also underscored the importance of guiding seasonal workers to follow proper hygiene practices. He pointed out that cleaning blood immediately with water after slaughter can prevent foul odour. The administrator advised that waste should be placed in designated bags in front of homes for quick removal by city corporation workers, expressing hope that with collective efforts, the city could be cleaned swiftly after Eid.
In addition, DNCC chief health officer Imrul Kayes noted the country’s demand for sacrificial animals this year is around 10.106 million. He mentioned that the training would provide practical demonstrations to help maintain the quality of meat and hides and urged imams to raise awareness during Friday sermons.
