Dhaka: The National Board of Revenue today announced that the extended deadline for submission of income tax returns by all taxpayers, excluding general individuals and Hindu Undivided Families (HUFs), will expire on May 17, 2026.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the NBR issued a press release stating that the deadline for filing income tax returns for the tax year 2025-26 had been extended previously to May 15, 2026, to support taxpayers and assist in meeting the government’s revenue collection goals. However, as May 15 is a Friday, a weekly government holiday, the deadline has been adjusted to the following working day, May 17, 2026, in compliance with the Income Tax Act, 2023.

The revenue authority emphasized that no additional extensions will be granted beyond this legally set and extended deadline. Taxpayers other than general individuals and HUFs who do not submit their returns within the specified timeframe may still file returns under the self-assessment system by June 30, 2026. This can be done by paying the required tax per Section 174 of the Income Tax Act, 2023, through their respective tax circles.

The NBR also called for earnest cooperation from all taxpayers to support the country’s economic advancement and adhere to legal responsibilities.
