Dhaka: The Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) has instructed all government-aided and education board-affiliated institutions not to collect monthly tuition fees from students who are recipients of merit and general scholarships. This directive emphasizes that any institution found violating this order will face legal and departmental actions.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the DSHE issued an official notification directing educational institutions nationwide to adhere strictly to this mandate. Prof Dr. Khan Moinuddin Al Mahmud Sohel, the Director General of DSHE, confirmed the implementation of the directive. The directive explicitly states that scholarship students will be exempt from paying tuition fees, and any institution demanding such fees will face disciplinary and legal repercussions.
The Education Ministry’s policy outlines that scholarships are awarded based on results from the Junior School Certificate (JSC), Junior Dakhil Certificate (JDC), and Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinations. These scholarships include monthly stipends and an annual lump-sum grant, with funds being directly deposited into the students’ bank accounts. The directive has been dispatched to all education boards, the University Grants Commission (UGC), government and private colleges, medical and engineering institutions, as well as district and upazila education offices for immediate implementation.
