Dhaka: Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed announced today that the government is implementing measures to ensure fair pricing for salt farmers by aligning prices with production costs. This initiative aims to achieve self-sufficiency within the nation’s salt sector while safeguarding the interests of local producers.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the announcement came during a high-level meeting at the Secretariat, chaired by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. Minister Ahmed stated that the Ministry of Agriculture is currently evaluating production expenses to ensure that salt farmers receive equitable returns. In addition, the government is assessing the demand for both industrial and edible salt to determine the necessity of imports.

Decisions regarding salt imports and pricing will be made after a thorough analysis of the data, following directives from the Prime Minister, Ahmed explained. In a separate discussion, the minister addressed border security concerns and the post-election climate in India’s West Bengal. He confirmed that the Border Guard Bangladesh remains on high alert, conducting continuous surveillance to prevent illegal infiltration and maintain border stability.

Addressing social media reports about alleged minority persecution in West Bengal, Ahmed noted that many claims are based on outdated or fabricated footage. He emphasized that neither the Home Ministry nor the Foreign Ministry has verified such allegations or found any direct implications for Bangladesh. The minister urged the public to remain cautious and not to be swayed by unfounded rumors and misinformation circulating online.
