Jajira: Road Transport and Bridges Minister Sheikh Robiul Alam today emphasized the Padma Bridge as a significant achievement in engineering, envisioning it as an educational resource for researchers and students. “The Padma Bridge is a unique example of construction engineering. Our future generations will draw inspiration of patriotism and self-reliance from Padma Bridge Museum,” he stated.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the minister’s remarks were made during the foundation stone laying ceremony for the Padma Bridge Museum at the Jajira end, where he also inaugurated a tree plantation. He highlighted that the museum would chronicle the historic struggle, address international conspiracies, and showcase the engineering journey behind the Padma Bridge’s construction.

The museum is being funded by the Bangladesh Bridge Authority and aims to preserve various artifacts including documents, rare photographs, digital models, and parts of heavy machinery used during the bridge’s construction from planning to implementation.

Addressing the tree plantation initiative, the minister noted the government’s commitment to balancing development with environmental protection. This initiative aligns with the Prime Minister’s plan to plant 250 million trees over the next five years to maintain environmental equilibrium. As part of this effort, 100,000 fruit-bearing, forest, and medicinal trees will be planted at both ends of the Padma Bridge over the next five years.
