Govt Pledges Support for Cable Operators to Address Logical Issues: Fakir Mahbub

Dhaka: Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister Faqir Mahbub Anam, MP, announced today that the government will continue to support cable operators in addressing their logical challenges, recognizing the cable, ISP, and broadcasting sectors as vital to the employment of millions across the nation. He emphasized the government’s commitment to sustaining and developing these sectors in line with modern technology.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Mahbub Anam, who is also the Minister of the Ministry of Science and Technology, made these remarks as the chief guest at the closing ceremony of the International Cable TV, Broadcasting and Communication (ICBC) Expo 2026. The event was held at the International Convention City Bashundhara in the capital. The minister highlighted that Bangladesh’s cable television, broadcasting, and telecommunications sector has entered a new era through technological transformation. The expansion of smart technology, fiber optic networks, IP TV, and digital content management systems has made the sector a significant driving force for national development, employment, and the IT-based economy.



The government is prioritizing infrastructure development, policy support, the creation of skilled human resources, and technological innovation to modernize the sector. Mahbub Anam acknowledged the long-standing contribution of cable operators in strengthening the country’s information and entertainment sector, affirming the government’s continued support for them.



He stressed the importance of ethics in technology use, customer data security, and delivering quality services. Furthermore, he called for increased international partnerships and encouraged the production of local content.



The three-day expo, which commenced on May 7, concluded today with 67 domestic and foreign companies showcasing their latest cable TV, broadcasting, and communication technologies and services.



The event was presided over by Cable Operators Association of Bangladesh (COAB) President ABM Saiful Hossain Sohel. Attendees included Dhaka North City Corporation Administrator Md. Shafiqul Islam Khan, Dhaka South City Corporation Administrator Md. Abdus Salam, ATCO General Secretary and Ekushey Television Chairman Abdus Salam, and other COAB members. Following the closing ceremony, the minister toured various stalls at the fair.
