Rajshahi: Land Minister Mizanur Rahman Minu has emphasized the significant role that sports and cultural activities play in nurturing talent and creativity among students, alongside their academic pursuits. Speaking as the chief guest at the Annual Prize Giving Ceremony 2026 of Madinatul Ulum Kamil Madrasa in the city on Friday, the minister highlighted the importance of these activities in fostering self-expression and balanced development.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the minister congratulated the students who excelled in sports and cultural competitions, underscoring that their achievements are a testament to the balanced development in education. He remarked that such activities are essential for developing talent and self-expression. Furthermore, Minister Minu stressed the importance of quality education, praising institutions like Madinatul Ulum Kamil Madrasa for their role in producing skilled and disciplined students. He urged teachers to enhance both academic and co-curricular activities to enable students to compete on national and international stages.
Minister Minu also highlighted Bangladesh’s commendable performance in international Qur’an recitation competitions, attributing it to the moral and religious education that contributes to character building and national development. He emphasized the need for institutional development in Rajshahi, announcing efforts to improve educational facilities in the region, including infrastructure expansion and long-term planning for leading institutions.
The minister advised students to engage in environmental activities, such as planting fruit and medicinal trees, to contribute to a greener society. The ceremony, presided over by Md. Hashmatullah, founder of the madrasa and a member of its governing body, also featured speeches from District Education Officer Zayedur Rahman, member of the Nationalist Lawyers’ Forum Advocate Osman Goni, and Principal Mokaddasul Islam.
The event was attended by teachers, students, guardians, officials, and media personnel. Concluding the program, Minister Minu distributed prizes to the winners of various competitions and awarded crests to 48 students from grades five and eight who had received scholarships.
