Two Illegal Brick Kilns Fined Tk 7 Lakh in Lalmonirhat

Lalmonirhat: The Department of Environment (DoE) conducted a mobile court against illegal brick kilns in Kaliganj upazila of the district, fining two brick kilns a total of Taka 7 lakh and ordering the closure of their operations.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, M/s GA Bricks was fined Taka 5 lakh, while M/s SA Bricks faced a penalty of Taka 2 lakh for violating the Brick Manufacturing and Kiln Establishment (Control) Act, 2013 (amended in 2019).



During the drive, authorities also demolished the kilns of both establishments and instructed the owners to immediately cease operations. The mobile court was led by Kishore Kumar Das, Executive Magistrate of the Monitoring and Enforcement Wing of the Department of Environment Headquarters.



District Office Inspector Md. Golam Asif Rahman acted as the prosecutor during the operation, with Assistant Director of the Department of Environment Bijon Kumar Roy also present. Officials of the Department of Environment stated that similar drives against illegal and polluting brick kilns would continue in the future as part of efforts to curb environmental pollution and enforce environmental laws.
