Chattogram: Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) today demolished illegal structures on important land in front of Ibne Sina Hospital in the Katalganj area of the busy Chawkbazar-Muradpur road for beautification purposes.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the drive was carried out under the direction of City Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain and supervised by CCC Acting Chief Executive Officer and Secretary Mohammad Ashraful Amin. The CCC Executive Magistrate, Chaiti Sarvabidya, led the drive to remove illegal structures in the area. These structures were built under the guise of a beautification project, violating agreements and obstructing pedestrian movement.
The proximity to the hospital exacerbated the issue, affecting patients and their families. The CCC conducted a mobile court campaign to restore normalcy and reclaim government property from encroachment. During the campaign, illegally constructed shops, tin sheds, and other encroached structures were removed. The encroachers were warned that legal action would be taken if they attempted to reoccupy or build again.
CCC officials stated that regular surveillance will be in place to prevent further encroachment in the area. Plans are underway to develop the area into a green park similar to Ramna Park in the capital, with design for play areas for children, seating for pedestrians, shade trees, and a clean environment. This park aims to provide a comfortable space for hospital patients and their families.
The CCC emphasized that such campaigns will continue to remove illegal encroachments and beautify important areas in the city, urging cooperation from all stakeholders to maintain a livable and orderly environment.
