Natore: An alleged fraud suspect has been apprehended with a foreign-made revolver, ammunition, sharp weapons, mobile phones, and SIM cards during a police operation in Lalpur upazila of Natore. The arrest occurred around 2pm, and the suspect has been identified as Arif Hossain, 27, son of Ataur Malitha from Biropara area under Gopalpur Municipality in Lalpur upazila.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the operation was executed by a special team from the Dinajpur District Detective Branch (DB) Police in coordination with Lalpur Police Station. The raid, conducted on Tuesday afternoon, was part of an ongoing investigation under the Cyber Security Ordinance 2025. The Officer-in-Charge (OC), Muhammad Alamgir, PPM, stated that the raid followed directives from Dinajpur Superintendent of Police Jeddan Al Musa, PPM, linked to Case No. 2 of Chirirbandar Police Station.
During the operation, law enforcement officials recovered a foreign-made revolver (manufactured in Pakistan) loaded with six bullets. Additionally, a 13.5-inch gear knife, two Android mobile phones, and SIM cards were seized. However, another suspect, Bijoy Islam, son of Rakibul Islam from Delua Ruiga village in the same area, evaded capture by jumping over a wall upon noticing the presence of law enforcement.
Authorities revealed that Arif and the fugitive Bijoy engaged in fraudulent activities by creating a fake WhatsApp account named ‘MD Jalal SI’. They used photos of senior police officials in uniform, including the Superintendent of Police of Dinajpur, and multiple mobile numbers to deceive individuals and embezzle money.
