Six Children Die of Measles and Related Symptoms in 24 Hours: DGHS

Dhaka: Six children have died from measles and similar symptoms within a 24-hour period ending at 8:00 am on Tuesday, as reported by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS). Two of these deaths have been confirmed as directly related to measles, while the remaining four are currently classified as suspected cases.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the majority of these suspected deaths were recorded in the cities of Dhaka and Sylhet, with four of the fatalities occurring in these regions. This recent spike in deaths has brought the total number of confirmed measles-related fatalities to 54, while suspected deaths have climbed to 263 since the tracking began on March 15.

DGHS data reveals that in the past 24 hours alone, there have been 1,186 new suspected cases of measles, bringing the total number of suspected cases to 42,979. Additionally, 259 new cases have been confirmed, increasing the total number of confirmed measles infections to 5,726.

Since March 15, hospitals have admitted a tota
l of 29,831 suspected measles patients, with 26,368 of them having recovered. The health authorities continue to monitor the situation closely and are urging the public to take necessary precautions to prevent further spread of the disease.
