Dhaka: Prime Minister Tarique Rahman today emphasized the necessity of conducting performance audits in conjunction with compliance audits to ensure transparency in public expenditures. He underscored the critical role of performance audits in maintaining transparency and accountability when spending public funds, which is essential for delivering various services to citizens and successfully achieving the objectives of government projects.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Prime Minister made these remarks during an event where he reviewed observations and recommendations from 38 audit reports, encompassing both compliance and performance audits, from various government departments and entities. During the occasion, the Comptroller and Auditor General of Bangladesh, Md Nurul Islam, presented the audit report for the fiscal year 2021-22 to the Prime Minister at the Cabinet Division of the Bangladesh Secretariat. The presentation was witnessed by PM’s press secretary Abu Abdullah M Saleh.
Present at the event were Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Ghani, Finance Secretary Dr. Khairruzzaman Mozumder, and officials from the relevant departments. The PM’s press wing highlighted that the audit report was prepared in accordance with Article 128(1) of the Constitution of Bangladesh and Section 5 of the Comptroller and Auditor General (Additional Functions) Act, 1974.
The Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of Bangladesh submitted a total of 38 compliance and performance audit reports covering 17 ministries and divisions, along with various directorates, offices, institutions, and projects, to the Prime Minister. These reports will be presented in parliament in due course.
