Dhaka: A high-level 15-member delegation led by Professor Dr. Mamun Ahmed, Chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh, is set to visit Pakistan soon. The upcoming visit aims to strengthen educational ties and explore advancements in higher education between the two nations.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the information was shared today during a courtesy call by a three-member delegation from the Pakistan High Commission in Bangladesh, led by High Commissioner Imran Haider, at the UGC Chairman’s office in Dhaka’s Agargaon. The delegation also included Deputy High Commissioner Muhammad Wasif and Counsellor (political) Kamran Dhangal.
High Commissioner Imran Haider highlighted that the delegation will visit various higher education institutions in Pakistan and engage with senior officials to discuss strategies for enhancing education and research quality. They will particularly focus on observing the changes and improvements that have occurred in Pakistan’s higher education system following the transformation of the University Grants Commission into the Higher Education Commission.
UGC Chairman Professor Dr. Mamun Ahmed emphasized the significance of the visit, noting that gaining first-hand insight into Pakistan’s advancements in higher education and research could provide new opportunities for Bangladeshi students. He mentioned that Pakistan has made significant strides in these areas in recent years.
Dr. Mamun Ahmed also stated that the Bangladeshi government and the UGC advocate for equitable treatment of both public and private universities regarding higher education provision. The focus now is on ensuring quality education and excellence in research, following the country’s quantitative expansion in higher education.
High Commissioner Imran Haider added that Pakistani universities have achieved global recognition in fields such as medicine, engineering, information technology, agriculture, artificial intelligence, and emerging technologies. Several universities, both public and private, are currently leading in research initiatives.
The meeting was attended by UGC members Professor Dr. Md. Saidur Rahman and Professor Dr. Mohammad Ayub Islam, Commission Secretary Dr. Md. Fakhrul Islam, and Director of the International Cooperation Division, Jesmin Parvin.
