Dhaka: Italian Ambassador to Bangladesh Antonio Alessandro today paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister’s Defence Adviser Brigadier General (Retd) Dr AKM Shamsul Islam at his office in the Armed Forces Division at Dhaka Cantonment. The meeting aimed to explore avenues for strengthening bilateral ties between the two nations, with a focus on defence cooperation.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Italian envoy led a four-member delegation during this meeting, as disclosed by a press release from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Directorate. The discussions centered on the prospects of enhancing and expanding the existing friendly relations between Bangladesh and Italy, particularly in the defence sector. Both sides expressed their commitment to deepening these ties through initiatives such as training, capacity building, and exchange of experiences.
The meeting also featured an exchange of views on mutual cooperation in the context of regional and global security. The discussions highlighted the importance of reinforcing mutual trust, cooperation, and strategic relationships between the two countries. The ISPR noted that both parties agreed on the necessity of further strengthening these bilateral relations to address shared security challenges effectively.
