Rajshahi: Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET) is set to welcome undergraduate first-year students of the 2025-26 academic session with a grand orientation on May 9. This marks the beginning of an exciting academic journey for the newcomers.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the orientation for new students is an annual event organized by RUET. Following the orientation, first-year classes are scheduled to formally commence on May 10. This decision was finalized at the 157th Academic Council meeting held recently, highlighting the university’s commitment to maintaining its academic calendar.
RUET offers a total of 1,230 seats across 14 departments under three engineering faculties. Among these, the departments of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE), Civil Engineering (CE), and Mechanical Engineering (ME) each have 180 seats. The departments of Mechatronics Engineering (MTE), Chemical and Materials Engineering (CME), Industrial and Production Engineering (IPE), Materials Science and Engineering (MSE), Urban and Regional Planning (URP), Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE), and Electrical and Telecommunication Engineering (ETE) have 60 seats each. Additionally, the departments of Architecture (ARCH), Chemical Engineering (CHE), and Environmental and Civil Engineering (ECM) offer 30 seats each.
The admission process for the 2025-26 academic session at RUET officially began on February 3, following the online application period from December 2 to December 13. The admission test took place on January 22, with 15,567 candidates participating out of 18,277 applicants. The results, announced on January 24, saw 7,702 students passing in Group ‘Ka’ and 274 in Group ‘Kha’.
Subsequent to the initial selection, students underwent a comprehensive process including final selection, filling out online department preference forms based on the merit list, submitting necessary documents, and undergoing a health check-up administered by RUET’s medical board. To streamline the admission process, an ‘auto migration’ system was implemented, allowing students the opportunity to transfer to a higher-preference department, contingent upon seat availability.
