Dhaka: An HSC examinee drowned in a swimming pool in the city’s Demra area on Sunday afternoon. The deceased was identified as Md. Shakib Hossain, 22, a student of Dania College and a resident of Dania Borobari area in Kadamtali. He was the son of Md Arif Hossain.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the incident occurred around 2:15 pm at ‘Shamsi Gallery’ swimming pool in the Konapara Balurmath area. Shakib’s classmate, Ifad, mentioned that a group of 15 to 16 friends had gone to the swimming pool for a swim. Shakib, who did not know how to swim, was advised to stay in a shallow, safe area of the pool. However, while the group was distracted, Shakib unknowingly moved into deeper water and drowned.
Upon realizing that he was missing, his friends rescued him in an unconscious state and rushed him to the Emergency Department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where the attending physician declared him dead. Inspector Md Faruk stated that the body has been kept at the hospital morgue and the concerned police station has been informed.
