Borobari: Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu today announced a three-month food assistance programme for farmers affected by recent floods and upstream water inflow in Haor areas. He made the announcement while speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration ceremony of the “Bidyanondo Self-Employment Project 2026” held at the Borobari Shaheed Abul Kashem College ground here.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the minister stated that farmers have become financially distressed as paddy fields across vast Haor regions have been submerged. “To ease their hardship, the government has undertaken an emergency food assistance programme,” he said. “A list of affected farmers is being prepared and those enlisted will receive monthly support under a special card system,” he added.

The initiative will cover Haor districts including Kishoreganj, Netrokona, Sunamganj, Habiganj, Sylhet, and Brahmanbaria. The programme is set to be formally launched in Sunamganj on May 6. During the event, the Bidyanondo Foundation distributed various livelihood support items including shop goods, vans, livestock, and sewing machines among 101 underprivileged families.
