Dhaka: The government has initiated a plan to preserve and sell Boro paddy and rice from farmers in Netrokona, Kishoreganj, Sunamganj, Sylhet, Moulvibazar, and Habiganj, which have been affected by sudden tidal surges. As part of this plan, the initial schedule for rice collection, originally set for May 15, has been moved forward. Collection activities in these Haor districts will now begin on May 3, as stated in a press release.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, for farmers in other districts across the country, the collection timetable remains unchanged. Paddy collection will start on May 3, and rice collection will begin on May 15, adhering to the pre-determined schedule. During the upcoming Boro season, the government plans to acquire 1.8 million metric tons of paddy and rice from the domestic market. This acquisition includes 500,000 metric tons of paddy, 1.2 million metric tons of parboiled rice, and 100,000 metric tons of Atap rice.
The government has also set procurement prices, with paddy priced at Tk 36 per kg, parboiled rice at Tk 49 per kg, and Atap rice at Tk 48 per kg. Additionally, 50,000 metric tons of wheat will be purchased at Tk 36 per kg.
