Alamgir Hossain Re-Elected as DJAB President, Tarikul Islam Masum as General Secretary

Sreemangal: The Defence Journalists Association of Bangladesh (DJAB) has announced its newly elected executive committee for the upcoming two-year term. Alamgir Hossain has been re-elected as the president, and Tarikul Islam Masum has been elected as the general secretary.



According to United News of Bangladesh, the election took place at a resort in Sreemangal on Thursday, coinciding with the association’s annual general meeting (AGM). During this meeting, members also approved an 11-member executive body to guide the association through its next term.



Alamgir Hossain, who is a special correspondent for Dainik Khoborer Kagoj, continues his role as president, having served in the same capacity in the outgoing committee. Tarikul Islam Masum, currently the joint assignment editor at Channel i, previously served as vice-president before being elected as the general secretary.



Other key positions in the new committee include Jamal Uddin from Bangla Tribune as vice-president and Ali Asif Shawon from Dhaka Tribune as joint general secretary. The position of treasurer was filled by Kazi Sohag of Bangladesh Pratidin, while Saif Bablu from Rupali Bangladesh was elected as organising secretary. Kamal Hossain Talukder from The News Twenty-four will serve as office secretary (publicity and training), and Habibullah Mizan of Allcrimes.tv has been appointed as international and research secretary.



The executive committee also includes three members: Ainal Hossain of Citizen Journal, SM Mintu from Dainik Naya Diganta, and Moni Acharyya of Dhaka Post.



The election was overseen by a three-member commission led by former DJAB president Mamunur Rashid as the chief election commissioner. Masud Karim from DeshkalNews and Neserul Haque Khokon from Jugantor were the other members of the commission.



An open discussion session was also part of the event, where participants deliberated on the role of journalists in covering topics such as state security and the enhancement of the defence sector.
