Chattogram: Chattogram Hill Tracts (CHT) Affairs Minister Dipen Dewan today stated that the nation’s development initiatives are yielding positive outcomes even in remote regions, with significant changes occurring in the health sector. “As per the election pledges, advanced waste management systems have been introduced in 26 government hospitals across the three districts of the Chattogram Hill Tracts, which is a landmark initiative to ensure safe healthcare services in remote hilly areas,” the minister said.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the minister made these remarks while serving as the chief guest at the inauguration ceremony of a ‘Health Care Waste Treatment Plant’ at Rangamati General Hospital premises this afternoon. The establishment of the plant has been facilitated with funding from the Government of Japan and technical support from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
The minister highlighted that the government has already unveiled a 180-day action plan aimed at creating a robust foundation in areas such as public welfare and sustainable development. He also emphasized the importance of creating employment opportunities for women and introducing digital monitoring systems to ensure transparency and a modern healthcare management approach.
Minister Dewan further acknowledged the role of development partners and called for their continued support. Notable attendees at the event included Canadian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Ajit Singh, Deputy Chief of Mission of the Embassy of Japan Takahashi Naoki, UNDP Resident Representative Stefan Liller, Asian Development Bank (ADB) Country Director Hoe Yun Jeong, Chairman of Rangamati Hill District Council Kajal Talukdar, and Civil Surgeon Dr. Nuyen Kheesa.
