205-Year-Old Horse Fair Kicks Off in Dinajpur

Dinajpur: The 205-year-old traditional horse fair began at Chintamon village in Fulbari upazila today.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the fair, known as ‘Bura Chintamon Ghora’, is also renowned for the trading of various cattle heads, including cows and goats, as well as handicrafts and agricultural products.



The fair was inaugurated by Fulbari Upazila Nirbahi Officer AHM Masum Hossain and Upazila BNP President Md. Khurshid Alam Matin. Following the inauguration, trading activities began, with printed documents being introduced for the trading of animals and other items this year, as announced by the organizers.



Horse traders from across the country have gathered at the fairground, which will run for 15 days. Organizers have noted that the fair reflects rural culture and continues to serve as a significant cultural and economic event for individuals of all ages.



Participants at the fair include traders and horse breeders from districts such as Dinajpur, Rangpur, Gaibandha, Nilphamari, Kurigram, Lalmonirhat, Joypurhat, Bogra, and the Char area of Mymensingh, with over 500 horses on display.



Idris Ali, a trader from Biral upazila, has been attending the fair for 60 years and brought a foal priced at Taka 15,000 this year. Meanwhile, Abdul Matin from Nilphamari brought five horses, including a mare and a foal, priced at Taka 7 lakh.



Fair organizer and municipal mayor Md. Shafiqul Islam stated that the administration and police are working together to ensure security throughout the event.
