Rumee A Hossain Appointed as Biman Bangladesh Airlines Chairman

Dhaka: The government has appointed Rumee A Hossain as the new chairman of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, while also reconstituting its board with a mix of senior officials and private sector representatives. The Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism released a notification on Saturday confirming these developments.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Rumee A Hossain, who is the sponsor director and chairman of the Board Executive Committee of Bank Asia, has taken on the role of chairman for the national flag carrier. This appointment comes as part of a broader restructuring effort aimed at strengthening the leadership and operational efficiency of the airline.

The newly reconstituted board of Biman Bangladesh Airlines features several high-profile individuals, including Finance Division Secretary Dr. Md Khairuzzaman Mazumder, Civil Aviation and Tourism Secretary Fahmida Akhter, Assistant Chief of Air Staff Air Vice Marshal Javed Tanveer Khan, and Engineer-in-Chief of Bangladesh Army Major General Md Hasan Uz Zaman.

Additionally, the board comprises BNP International Affairs Secretary Barrister Nasir Uddin Ahmed Asim, Policy Exchange Bangladesh Chairman and CEO M Masrur Reaz, United Commercial Bank Chairman Sharif Zahir, DBL Group Vice Chairman Mohammad Abdur Rahim, ICMAB Additional Managing Director Md Mamunur Rashid, Barrister Khairul Alam Chowdhury, Dhaka University Marketing Department Professor Abu Naser Ahmed Ishtiaque, and Biman Managing Director and CEO Kaiser Sohel Ahmed as an ex-officio member.

The position of chairman had been vacant for an extended period following the resignation of the former chairman, Sheikh Bashir Uddin. This new appointment is seen as a crucial step towards revitalizing the airline's governance and ensuring steady leadership.
