Rizia Khatun, mother of BSS News Editor Ghulam Ahad, died of old-age complications at her Sultanshahi village residence in Gopalganj Sadar upazila at 9am today. She was 90, family sources said.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Rizia Khatun is survived by five daughters, four sons, several grandchildren, and numerous relatives and well-wishers. Her husband, the late Darbesh Ali Munshi, served as a director of Gopalganj Central Cooperative Bank and held positions within the Paikkandi Union BNP and Sadar thana unit of BNP.
Among her sons, Firoze Ahmed works at the US Embassy in Dhaka as a political specialist, Farhad Ahmed is a vice-president of Gopalganj Sadar Thana unit of the ruling BNP, and Touhidur Rahman is the executive editor of the Daily Jobabdihi.
Rizia Khatun was laid to rest at her family graveyard in Gopalganj, following a namaz-e-janaza after jum’ah prayers. Meanwhile, the Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) exp
ressed profound shock and sorrow at her passing. In a condolence message, DRU President Abu Saleh Akon and General Secretary Mynul Hasan Sohel prayed for the eternal peace of her soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.
