Ex-DGFI Director Afzal Naser Remanded in Fresh Uprising Case

Dhaka: A court here today placed former DGFI director and dismissed Lieutenant Colonel Md Afzal Naser on a four-day remand in a case lodged over the killing of one Mahmudul Hasan in Uttara area during the July Mass Uprising, 2024. Dhaka Additional Metropolitan Magistrate Sefatullah passed the order as police produced Naser before the court and pleaded to place him on a seven-day remand in the case.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, a team of the Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested Afzal Naser from his residence in Mirpur DOHS on March 30, 2026. The arrest is linked to the investigation of the incident that took place during the anti-discrimination student movement.



The case documents reveal that Mahmudul Hasan joined a procession of the student movement on August 5, 2024, in Azampur area under Uttara East Police Station. The procession came under attack, leading to Hasan getting shot. He was rushed to Kuwait Bangladesh Friendship Govt Hospital, where the attending doctors declared him dead.



The case was officially filed on September 26, 2024, with Uttara East Police Station, marking the beginning of the legal proceedings against those involved in the incident.
