Dhaka: The Energy Division announced today that its extensive nationwide campaign against illegally stored petroleum has resulted in the recovery of 5,76,993 litres of oil through mobile courts over a period of 49 days, concluding on April 21.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the campaign, which began on March 3, involved 11,197 mobile courts led by executive magistrates. The initiative was launched to ensure a smooth fuel supply system in the face of an energy crisis exacerbated by the ongoing Middle East situation.

The Energy Division detailed that the mobile courts succeeded in recovering 3,90,209 litres of diesel, 40,846 litres of octane, 97,438 litres of petrol, and 48,500 litres of furnace oil. In connection with these operations, 4,053 cases were filed, and 54 individuals were sentenced for hoarding petroleum products.

Furthermore, the mobile courts collected a total of Taka 1,80,96,115 in fines throughout the 49-day campaign. The Energy Division emphasized that these efforts will persist to ensure a continuous supply of fuel and to prevent further irregularities in the market.

The division also encouraged the public to report any information regarding illegal stockpiling to designated vigilance teams.
