Dhaka: Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Abdul Awal Mintu today met a UNESCO delegation in Bangladesh, seeking support to protect the environment. The meeting took place at the minister’s office at the secretariat.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dr. Susan Vize, head of office and country representative to UNESCO, Dhaka, led the UNESCO delegation. During the exchange of views, the minister emphasized the need for UNESCO’s support and collaboration to protect the environment and implement more effective measures. He highlighted the government’s initiatives including waste management modernization, water and air pollution control, and enforcing Sundarbans protection.
State Minister Sheikh Faridul Islam was also present at the meeting. Dr. Susan Vize expressed interest in extending support to initiatives like Green Campus, Biodiversity Protection, and environmental education. She also discussed aspects of the Man and The Biosphere (MAB) program and the Climate and Smart Education System Initiative (CSESI) to provide support for climate and environmental protection.
Officials from the ministry and UNESCO Bangladesh attended the meeting.
