Dhaka: Members of Parliament (MPs) were urged on Wednesday to refrain from using mobile phones and taking photographs inside the House. The request was made after Deputy Speaker Kayser Kamal, who was presiding over the sitting, drew attention to the disturbance caused by phone conversations.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the issue arose as Hamidur Rahman (Dhaka-7) was called to participate in the discussion on the President's speech, following the address by Abdul Mannan (Brahmanbaria-5). The Deputy Speaker noted that the noise from mobile phone use was audible throughout the House, disrupting both speakers and listeners.
In response, the Chief Whip requested that all members maintain the sanctity of the chamber. He emphasized that no one should speak on a mobile phone inside the Parliament chamber and advised those who needed to speak to do so outside. He added that the noise from mobile phone use reaches even the Speaker's desk.
During the proceedings, a member raised the issue of photography, prompting the Chief Whip to clarify that taking pictures inside the chamber is also prohibited. He reminded the lawmakers to adhere to the Rules of Procedure regarding "crossing the floor" and cautioned members against walking between the Speaker and an MP who is delivering a speech. He advised, "Do not come and go through the middle. If you need to move, go around from behind. This is the rule," urging the House for strict adherence to parliamentary etiquette.
