Dhaka: Five more people have succumbed to measles and measles-like symptoms in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of deaths to 211 this year, as reported by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
According to United News of Bangladesh, out of the recent fatalities, three were confirmed as measles cases. Within the same timeframe, health authorities reported 127 confirmed measles patients in addition to 1,115 suspected cases nationwide. The DGHS has also revealed that a total of 13,898 individuals with suspected measles have been hospitalized so far, with 11,243 patients having recovered and been discharged.
Division-wise statistics indicate that Barishal recorded the highest number of suspected measles-related fatalities in the past 24 hours, with two deaths. Additionally, Barguna district reported two deaths due to the disease. Between March 15 and April 17, the DGHS confirmed 37 deaths as a result of measles, while 174 deaths continued to be classified as suspected measles cases.
