Chattogram: Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) Mayor Dr Shahadat Hossain today called for collective effort to rebuild the country and strengthen democracy. He made the remarks while inaugurating a two-day New Year programme at CRB Sirishtala in the city as chief guest.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the event was organised by Naboborsho Udjapon Parisad, Chattogram, and presided over by Railway Officers Club General Secretary Fazlur Rahman. Member of Parliament (MP) Abu Sufian attended as special guest. The mayor emphasized the importance of protecting heritage, culture, and the environment, highlighting the critical role trees play in maintaining ecological balance and providing oxygen.
Mayor Dr Shahadat Hossain also noted that Sirishtala has served the city for over 125 years and must be preserved for future generations. He praised public efforts during a 250-day movement to protect the CRB area from a hospital project and urged citizens to work together to build a clean, green, and safe city.
Special guests included former General Secretary of Chattogram Metropolitan BNP valiant freedom fighter Ekramul Karim, former General Secretary of Metropolitan BNP Abul Hashem Bakkar, and General Manager of Railway Eastern Zone Md Subaktagin. Former councillor Niaz Mohammad Khan, journalists Meah Mohammad Arif, MR Manju, Nurul Afsar Majumder Swapan, Hasan Maruf Rumi, Faruk Taher, Mohammad Ali, and MA Musa Bablu, among others, were present, representing the Udjapon Parisad.
