Dhaka: Social Welfare and Women and Children Affairs Minister Professor Dr AZM Zahid Hossain emphasized that grassroots-level entrepreneurs are pivotal in establishing a self-reliant economy in Bangladesh. The minister shared these insights while serving as the chief guest at the “Choyonika Women Entrepreneurs Festival 2026,” which took place at Bangladesh Mahila Samiti on Bailey Road in the city.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the event was presided over by Tamanna Rahman, General Secretary of Bangladesh Mahila Samiti. The festival also featured renowned fashion icon and UNESCO Artist for Peace, Bibi Russell, as a special guest. Minister Zahid Hossain highlighted the importance of self-reliance amid the current global uncertainties, stating that strengthening the small and medium entrepreneur sector is crucial for the sustainable development of Bangladesh.

The minister further noted that women entrepreneurs play a vital role in the country’s economy. He acknowledged their contributions across various sectors, including cottage industries, agriculture-based businesses, fashion, handicrafts, and food processing. These efforts, he said, are not only benefiting their families but also bolstering the local economy and generating employment opportunities.
