Narsingdi: Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md. Sakhawat Husain today announced that health cards will be distributed nationwide by June this year. “We expect to move the nation forward in the new year. Overall, allocation for the health sector will be increased in the upcoming fiscal year’s budget to ensure its substantial development,” he stated.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the minister made these remarks during the inauguration of a traditional folk fair at the Manohardi Upazila Parishad premises in Narsingdi, marking the occasion of Pahela Baishakh. During his speech, he highlighted several government initiatives aimed at public welfare, including the waiver of agricultural loans, increased allocation for the destitute, Test Relief (TR) and Kabikha programmes, and canal excavation projects.

The minister also addressed the ongoing efforts to control measles, noting that vaccination campaigns are currently active in 30 upazilas and four city corporations. From April 20, children throughout the country will receive measles vaccines and Vitamin A capsules as part of a nationwide campaign. “We are working to contain the measles outbreak and hope it will be brought under control soon,” he added.

The event also featured a vibrant Baishakhi procession from the Upazila Parishad premises, celebrating the Bengali New Year. The procession included participation from the health minister, local administration, BNP leaders, and students from various schools and colleges.
