Dhaka: Industries and Commerce Minister Khandakar Abdul Muktadir emphasized today that the Baishakhi Fair transcends its role as a cultural gathering, serving as a pivotal initiative for advancing the country’s industrial and cultural domains. The Minister highlighted the significance of Bengali Nababarsha, describing it as a day that evokes profound emotions.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Muktadir made these remarks during the inaugural ceremony of a seven-day Baishakhi Fair. The event, organized collaboratively by the Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC) and Bangla Academy, marks the Bengali New Year 1433 and Chaitra Sankranti. The ceremony took place at the Bangla Academy premises, with Cultural Affairs Minister Nitai Roy Chowdhury present as the chief guest.

Reflecting on past years, Muktadir noted the anxiety surrounding Pahela Baishakh celebrations and the potential for untoward incidents. He commended the celebration as evidence of the peace-loving and disciplined nature of the country’s populace. The Minister underscored the importance of rural artisans, small entrepreneurs, and home-based production systems in contributing to the national economy, stating that their creativity, labor, and innovation are foundational.

Muktadir also pointed out the historical significance of the small, cottage, and medium industries sector in Bangladesh, acknowledging its role as a major employment source. He assured that the Ministry of Industries is committed to promoting sustainable development, entrepreneurship, and an investment-friendly environment in this sector. The Baishakhi Fair is set to continue until April 20.
