Dhaka: Bangladesh Bank (BB) today announced that customers of Sammilito Islamic Bank are now permitted to withdraw up to Tk 10 lakh for medical treatment.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Assistant Spokesperson of Bangladesh Bank Shahriar Siddiqui stated during an emergency press briefing at Sena Kalyan Bhaban in the city that customers suffering from illness would be allowed to withdraw up to Tk 10 lakh upon submission of relevant documents. The central bank will conduct a formal verification process to confirm the authenticity of the medical necessity before authorizing the release of funds.

In cases where treatment costs exceed the Tk 10 lakh threshold, depositors are required to inform Bangladesh Bank to seek further authorization. The bank’s administrators have been formally notified of this decision to ensure immediate implementation.

Siddiqui encouraged customers who are unable to withdraw approved amounts despite meeting requirements to report the matter directly to the central bank for intervention. He urged depositors to remain patient, assuring them that everyone will receive their money and that funds are being released in proportion to the government’s deposit support.

The disbursement process initially began with a Tk 2 lakh limit and is being gradually expanded. Steps are underway to strengthen the bank’s management, including issuing a recruitment notice for appointing a managing director and the ongoing process of appointing a chairman. Once a decision is provided by the Ministry of Finance, Bangladesh Bank will implement it quickly.
