Tangail: Two children died after drowning in a pond in Ghatail upazila here. The tragic incident occurred last evening near the Darul Uloom Hifzul Quran Madrasa in the Ratna-Ata area under Dhalapara union of the upazila.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the deceased were identified as Tamanna, 11, daughter of Ashraf Ali of Sarabari Boro Medha area under Dhalapara union, and Nisa Khatun, 12, daughter of Munsur Ali of Ashra-Shalikha area under Mohishmara union of Madhupur upazila. Both were students of the Ranta-Ata Darul Uloom Hifzul Quran Madrasa.
Eyewitnesses reported that a group of madrasa students went to play on the bank of a nearby pond late in the afternoon, where they accidentally fell into the water. Locals, alerted by shouts, intervened and conducted a rescue operation, recovering two children who were already deceased.
Other children who were rescued received primary treatment at a local health center. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Ghatail Police Station, Md. Maksudur Alam, confirmed the incident to BSS, stating, “After completing legal procedures, the bodies were handed over to the families.”
