Sherpur: BNP-nominated candidate and former parliamentarian Mahmudul Haque Rubel has been passing busy times in campaigning for Sherpur-3 (Sreebardi-Jhenaigati) constituency by-election slated for April 9. The parliamentary seat became vacant following the death of Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Nuruzzaman Badal on February 4.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, as part of his campaign, Rubel held a public meeting and election rally this afternoon at Kangsha union under Jhenaigati upazila. Earlier, leaders and activists from different wards of the union joined the rally. Addressing the gathering as the chief guest, Rubel emphasized that if BNP wins from Sherpur-3, steps will be taken to resolve the crisis of wild elephant attacks in the hilly areas of the constituency. He also pledged to improve road communication, ensure safe drinking water, and create employment opportunities for unemployed men and women.
Rubel called upon party people to work unitedly to ensure the victory of the party’s electoral symbol ‘Sheaf of Paddy’. In the constituency, Jamaat candidate Masudur Rahman is contesting with the Daripalla symbol, while Bangladesh Samajtantrik Dal (Marxist) candidate Mohammad Mizanur Rahman is contesting with the Kanchi (Paddy Cutter) symbol.
District Election Officer Mohammad Jahangir Hossain stated that a total of 413,377 voters will exercise their right of franchise at 128 polling centers in 17 unions and one Purashava under the two upazilas of the constituency. On the election day, magistrates with judicial powers, along with the army, BGB, RAB, and police, will remain deployed with full preparation.
