Sundarbans: The members of Bangladesh Coast Guard (BCG), the maritime law enforcement agency responsible for safeguarding the country's territorial waters, rescued a fisherman, held hostage by the notorious robbers of the Sundarbans.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, a release signed by BCG Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujan detailed the operation. The gang of robbers, popularly known as Jonab Bahini, had earlier taken Mujibar Gazi, a resident of Koyra Police Station in Khulna district, hostage.
The BCG release stated that, acting on secret information, the law enforcement agency conducted a rescue operation at Khurkhuria Canal in the Sundarbans area last night. However, the robbers managed to evade capture as they fled into the forest, leaving the hostage behind, after sensing the presence of BCG members.
The rescued fisherman has yet to be handed over to his family.
