Chattogram: A fire gutted valuables at a fish processing factory in the Sagorika area of Pahartali in Chattogram port city on Sunday. Witnesses reported that the blaze began around 11:45 am in a storage facility of the factory named ‘BD Sea Food Limited’ located at C-Port No. 3 and quickly engulfed the building, according to deputy director of Fire Service and Civil Defence, Jashim Uddin.
According to United News of Bangladesh, eight firefighting units responded promptly to the scene upon receiving information about the fire. The units managed to bring the blaze under control after approximately one and a half hours of concerted effort. Fortunately, no casualties were reported in the incident. However, the precise extent of the damage remains unconfirmed at this stage.
Fire Service officials have indicated that a thorough investigation will be conducted to determine the cause and extent of the damage. The firefighting efforts were hindered by the presence of a cold storage facility within the premises, which created a challenging environment for the firefighters. The cold conditions and the presence of gas made it difficult to access certain areas, as noted by Jashim Uddin.
Factory manager Neamat Ullah stated that a detailed assessment of the damage will be carried out once the fire is completely extinguished. The investigation and subsequent analysis are expected to provide a clearer picture of the impact on the factory’s operations and assets.
