Dhaka: The International Crimes Tribunal-2 has mandated that former director general of the Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI), Lt Gen (retd) Sheikh Mamun Khaled, and former member of parliament, Lt Gen (retd) Masud Uddin Chowdhury, be presented before the tribunal on April 7. This directive comes in light of their alleged involvement in crimes against humanity.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the order was issued by ICT-2 Judge Nazrul Islam Chowdhury following a petition submitted by the prosecution on March 29. Chief Prosecutor Aminul Islam has emphasized that the prosecution has also requested a production warrant to guarantee their presence in court.
Lt Gen (retd) Masud Uddin Chowdhury, who previously served as a lawmaker for Feni-3, was detained by detectives on March 24 from the Baridhara area of Dhaka. This arrest is linked to a case filed at Paltan Police Station on charges related to human trafficking. Masud, a prominent figure during the army-backed caretaker government, was apprehended at his residence in Baridhara DOHS.
On March 26, authorities also detained Lt Gen (retd) Sheikh Mamun Khaled, the former DG of DGFI, in the Mirpur area of Dhaka. Both individuals have been placed on remand for several days in connection with separate cases.
