Dhaka: The adjourned meeting of the first session of the special committee formed by the Jatiya Sangsad was held today at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban. Committee Chairman Jainal Abedin chaired the meeting, which was attended by several key members including Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, Chief Whip Md Nurul Islam Moni, and Law Minister Md Asaduzzaman.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the meeting discussed a wide range of ordinances promulgated by the interim government. The ordinances under review include those related to national development authorities, freedom fighters’ welfare, labor laws, right to information, wetland conservation, and several amendments to existing legal frameworks.
The committee’s focus was on evaluating the necessity and relevance of these ordinances. This includes the Bangladesh Building Regulatory Authority Ordinance, Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha Ordinance, and various development authority ordinances for cities like Barishal, Mymensingh, and Rangpur. Other significant ordinances discussed were related to the National Human Rights Commission, representation of the people, referendum regulations, and amendments concerning university laws.
The committee is tasked with examining these ordinances closely and is expected to place a comprehensive report before the Jatiya Sangsad at the earliest. This evaluation aims to ensure that the ordinances are aligned with the current needs and legislative priorities of the nation.
Attendees of the meeting included Secretary of the Jatiya Sangsad Secretariat Kaniz Mowla, Secretary of the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, and other relevant officials. The presence of these officials underscores the importance of the session in shaping future legislative actions.
