Programmes Planned for Independence and National Day-2026 Celebrations in Rangpur

Rangpur: District administrations and various socio-cultural and political organizations have outlined an extensive programme to commemorate the country’s Independence and National Day-2026 with grandeur.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the district administration, Rangpur City Corporation (RpCC), district BNP and its affiliated bodies, educational institutions, socio-cultural, and professional organizations have made comprehensive preparations to celebrate the day in a vibrant manner.



This year’s celebration of Independence and National Day-2026 holds special significance as it takes place in a completely democratic environment, with enthusiastic participation expected from people across all walks of life. The festivities will commence with 31 gun salutes at the Rangpur Police Lines ground at the stroke of midnight on March 26. As the sun rises, the national flag will be ceremoniously hoisted atop all government, semi-government, private buildings, educational institutions, and other establishments, followed by floral tributes at the ‘Shaheed Muktijoddha Smritistambha’ in the city’s Collectorate Surovi Uddyan.



Key officials, including the Divisional Commissioner, RpCC Administrator, Deputy Inspector General for Rangpur Range Police, Rangpur Metropolitan Police Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner, Superintendent of Police, and District Council Administrator, will place wreaths in honor of the martyrs. Subsequently, leaders from the BNP, its associate bodies, other political parties, freedom fighters, heads of government departments, educational institutions, and the community will pay their respects.



Divisional Commissioner Md Shahidul Islam will lead the hoisting of the national flag while the National Anthem is played at Shaheed Abu Sayeed Stadium at 9:00 am. He will also review the March pasts conducted by scouts, girl guides, and students, and witness their colorful displays. A reception for the families of freedom fighters, as well as martyred and injured freedom fighters, is scheduled at the District Shilpokola Academy Auditorium at 11:00 am.



The day’s events include a special discussion on the War of Liberation and independence, chaired by Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Enamul Ahsan. Additionally, the District Shishu Academy will organize a drawing competition for children centered on the Liberation War. Films and documentaries on the War of Liberation will be screened at cinema halls and open venues for students. Special prayers and munajats will be held at religious venues, seeking peace and prosperity for the nation and its freedom fighters.



Improved meals will be distributed to inmates of hospitals, jails, orphanages, and various welfare centers. Special programmes will be aired by Rangpur Kendra of Bangladesh Betar, and local publications will release supplements highlighting the day’s importance. The BNP, freedom fighters, political parties, Begum Rokeya University, and other institutions have also planned comprehensive activities for the occasion.
