Rangpur: The district's main Eid congregation was held at 8:30 am today at the District Model Mosque and Islamic Cultural Center due to adverse weather conditions. Despite initial announcements that the main Eid-ul-Fitr congregation would occur at the Rangpur Collectorate Eidgah Maidan, overnight rain rendered the field conditions unsuitable for such a large gathering.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the decision to move the congregation indoors was made in response to the unfavorable weather affecting not only the Rangpur Collectorate Eidgah Maidan but also other open spaces in the city. The congregation was led by Alhaj Hafiz Quari Moulana Md Bayezid Hussaine, the Khatib of the historic Keramotia Jame Mosque, who delivered the sermon and led special munajats for the welfare of the Muslim Ummah.
During the gathering, participants offered prayers for peace and prosperity, with special munajats focusing on the welfare of Muslims worldwide, including those in Gaza and Iran. Before the prayers, Member of Parliament Mahbubar Rahman Bell and Rangpur City Corporation Administrator Advocate Mahfuz Un Nabi Don addressed the devotees, extending Eid greetings.
The event was presided over by Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Enamul Ahsan and attended by high-ranking officials, political leaders, and thousands of worshippers. A second Eid congregation was also held at the District Model Mosque at 9:30 am, ensuring that all could participate amid tight security.
Additionally, various Eid congregations took place at other mosques within the city, including the Rangpur Police Lines Mosque and the Munshipara Jame Mosque, as well as in surrounding upazilas where weather conditions were more favorable. To mark the occasion, the national flag was hoisted on all government and private buildings, and special meals were served to inmates, orphans, and residents of welfare centers across the district.
