Sylhet: Two members of Jatiotabadi Swechhasebak Dal have been expelled from the party following a clash over beef prices in Sylhet. They are Aziz Khan Sajib, joint convener of the Metropolitan Swechhasebak Dal, and member Golam Rabbani.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the decision to suspend the two members was taken by Central Committee President SM Jilani and General Secretary Rajib Ahsan. This information was disclosed in a press release issued by Joint Office Secretary Md. Osman Gani.
The clash occurred on Thursday night around 9:30 pm in the Medina Market area. A scuffle erupted between leaders and activists of two BNP-affiliated groups over disagreements related to beef prices. This altercation led to injuries for at least 10 individuals. Police and army personnel were called to the scene to restore order and ensure the safety of the public.
Sylhet Metropolitan Volunteer Party member secretary Afsar Khan noted that the central committee decided to suspend the two members after conducting a verification process concerning the facts of the clash. Sylhet Metropolitan Police Additional Deputy Commissioner (Media) Md. Manjurul Alam stated that quick action was taken by law enforcement to maintain public safety.
