Dhaka: The holy Shab-e-Qadr, also known as Lailatul Qadr (the Night of Decree or Power), is being observed across the country tonight. This significant night marks the occasion when the first verses of the Holy Quran were revealed to Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH), and it holds immense importance for Muslims worldwide.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Muslim devotees are spending the night by offering special prayers, reciting the Holy Quran, holding zikr, and performing religious rituals. These acts are done in the hope of seeking blessings from Almighty Allah for long life, peace, and progress for themselves, their families, and the entire Muslim Ummah. In recognition of this sacred night, tomorrow has been declared a public holiday.
Media outlets are playing a significant role in highlighting the importance of Lailatul Qadr. Newspapers have published special articles, and both state-run and private television channels are airing programs to emphasize the night's significance. The Holy Quran describes this night as being better than 1,000 months, with angels descending by the permission of Almighty Allah with all decrees.
The night of Lailatul Qadr is considered one of the most sacred and blessed nights in Islam. It is believed to occur on one of the odd-numbered nights during the last 10 days of Ramadan, most likely on the 27th night. Many devotees also visit graveyards to seek eternal blessings for their departed loved ones.
Ramadan is a month dedicated to spiritual training. Besides fasting, Muslims engage in prayers, recitation of the Holy Quran, and charity. In the capital, a doa mahfil and discussion took place at the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque this evening.
