Naogaon: Land Minister Mizanur Rahman Minu has announced proactive steps to address widespread complaints about land-related issues and to prevent irregularities and corruption within the Ministry of Land. These remarks were made during his speech as the chief guest at a discussion meeting following the inauguration of the re-excavation work of the Bil Lata canal in Niamatpur Upazila of Naogaon District.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Minister Minu emphasized the commitment of his ministry to work with integrity and assured that action will be taken against those previously involved in corrupt activities. He acknowledged the persistent frustration among citizens regarding land matters and expressed his dedication to resolving these issues for the benefit of the people.
Minister Minu noted the significance of canal excavation for boosting agricultural production, drawing parallels to former President Ziaur Rahman's successful initiatives that led the country from famine to food self-sufficiency. He highlighted that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is revitalizing this program to address the growing demand for food amidst the rapid expansion of cities like Dhaka and Chittagong, which has resulted in decreased cultivable land.
The minister outlined the re-excavation project of the Bil Lata canal, which spans approximately 1,200 meters from Belgapur to Julupura in Niamatpur Upazila. This initiative will be executed by the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) at an estimated cost of around Tk 1.5 million.
Addressing the attendees, Minister Minu reiterated the government's commitment to serving the people and fulfilling public expectations. He stressed the importance of maintaining close connections between party leaders, activists, and ordinary citizens to facilitate effective governance.
The discussion meeting was chaired by Mostafizur Rahman, MP, with Abu Bakkar Siddique, Naogaon District Council Administrator and BNP's Naogaon district unit president, as the main speaker. Special guests included Zahidul Islam, MP, Fazle Huda Babul, MP, and Ikramul Bari, MP. The event was also attended by other local officials, including Naogaon's Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Saiful Islam and Superintendent of Police Mohammad Tarikul Islam.
