Dhaka: Minister for Education and Primary and Mass Education ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon announced today that the government is considering necessary changes to the digital transfer system of primary school teachers to make the process more balanced and responsive to local needs. This statement was made in response to a query from Dewan Mohammod Salahuddin, a member of the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) representing the Dhaka-19 constituency, who raised the issue during a parliamentary session.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Education Minister highlighted the evolution of the transfer system for primary school teachers, noting that previously there was no provision for teachers to be transferred outside their respective areas. The introduction of a computerized system by a former government allowed transfers to be managed through a digital platform. Milon, who also holds the position of Primary and Mass Education Minister, explained that transfers are currently processed based on instructions generated by this digital system.

The minister pointed out that due to Savar’s inclusion in the greater Dhaka area, it attracts many teachers seeking transfers from various parts of the country. To address this, Milon mentioned the need to implement reservation mechanisms within the digital system. The government is reviewing the situation and has initiated discussions to adjust the computer program, aiming to ensure that a larger proportion of teachers posted in a locality are from that area, while still allowing for a limited number from outside.

During the session, Dewan Mohammod Salahuddin emphasized the importance of adhering to current policy, which prioritizes placing teachers in government primary schools within their local areas, especially when vacancies arise due to retirements. He underlined that the rules suggest giving preference to teachers who are residents of the respective areas, have provided a local address during recruitment, and are registered voters there.
